The parking cost may sometimes be different from the displayed parking tariff or rate.

Check notification fees
If you have selected SMS notifications or SMS receipts, an additional fee may apply.
These fees help cover mobile network costs and can vary depending on the parking location and service selected.

📋 NOTE: The confirmation screen displays a breakdown of costs before you pay.
Check service fees
PayByPhone may apply service fees.
Some parking operators cover these charges for customers. In other locations, the fee is included as part of the transaction. Parking rates themselves are determined by the municipality or private parking operator, not PayByPhone, although the app sometimes adds a small fee, often under $0.50 (USD/CAD) or £0.35 (GBP).
Service fees can vary by location and may apply to a parking session or extension.
Ensure that you have selected the correct vehicle type.
In some UK locations, your vehicle classification may affect the parking rate shown in the app.
For example, a heavy vehicle may be subject to higher parking costs, while an electric vehicle may be eligible for a reduced rate.
To review your vehicle registration and car type in the PayByPhone app:
- Tap Account.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Vehicle Management.
- Select the vehicle you want to review.
- Check the car type listed for that vehicle.
If the vehicle type is incorrect, delete the registration plate and add it again with the correct vehicle type.
Check for rate changes or temporary special event pricing
All parking rates are set by the parking operator.
In some locations, the parking operator may update rates or apply temporary special event pricing when an event is taking place nearby.
This means the cost of parking may change for a limited time. The cost of the parking will always be displayed before you confirm and pay.
Fuel type or emissions output
London Boroughs may charge for parking based on fuel type, CO2 emissions, or both. As such, a diesel or non-Euro 6 compliant vehicle may be charged more than an electric vehicle.
PayByPhone uses DVLA look-ups to obtain vehicle data. If you believe there is an error with respect to your vehicle's status, we will need to connect you with our Support Team for review.
Parker will ask you for a few more details so the team can investigate. Be sure to include your vehicle registration number.
